Wayoi.Com - Mentawai Island is one of the best islands in Indonesia. Located in West Sumatera Province and it’s border with Hindia Ocean. The islands consist of four main islands: North Pagai, South Pagai, Sipora and Siberut island.  Mentawai is one of district in West Sumatera. The island such a wonderful place to spend vacation and enjoy your selves. The fresh air without contaminated by any other pollution since no factory and limited number of vehicle give you a chance to get the fresh air all day long.

To reach that place from Padang you can take a ship or ferry from Bungus harbor. As informed above about the 4 main islands, it has relation with the ferry schedule. There is one ferry to serve 3 main islands, Siberut, Sipora, and Pagai (North and South Pagai has one join harbor). Sipora as a capital town of Mentawai has a few small ships to serve the island as well. Actually there was an airplane served Mentawai island and the port in Sipora, but it’s off for a while since an accident that happen (only one airplane serve Mentawai). The government said the air plane will be active at the beginning of 2012, in fact until today still no air plane.

Mentawai is very well-known among the surfers.  A lot of surfers come to Mentawai for surfing. Some of them came with surfers cruise (they paid amount money to travel with cruise for surfing around Mentawai, usually the paid 3.000 US dollars for 2 weeks) and the other came by them self or packers. There are a few resorts in Mentawai.  For instance Macaroni resort in North Pagai, Karamajat in Siberut, and Aloita in Sipora. Beside the resort there are several accommodation like Bintang Hotel in Sipora, Wisma Melati, Wisma Lestari and Wisma Asri in North Pagai and Wisma Tio in Siberut. Not only in resort or hotel, visitors could stay with local people.

Some of the spot for surfing are in Katiet and Bosua (South Sipora), Silabu (North Pagai), and Karamajat in Siberut The beaches in Mentawai are amazing. The white and soft sand, blue water, nice coral, give an impression for the visitors. The people in Mentawai are friendly. They love to see visitors and talk to them.
